Why You Should Detox with Tea and What Are the Benefits of a Tea Tox?
Starting a Tea Tox is easier than you think. But why would you want to Detox with Tea and what are the benefits? Today I’m going to go over the ins and outs of all the benefits of a “Tea Tox” and how you can get started with your own program today.
It is no secret that we are exposed to hundreds of different chemicals each day. There are several things we can do to limit that exposure; eat organic foods, drink filtered water, use non toxic household cleaning supplies and avoid using pesticides or herbicides in your yard to name a few.
This brings us to the ways to improve your body’s ability to eliminate these toxins by starting a Tea Tox.
With the right amount of nutritional support you can help regulate the process and rid those toxins more efficiently and avoid those unwanted symptoms altogether.
Dislodged toxins that are not eliminated from the body may cause symptoms such as fatigue, mood imbalance, aches, pains and a general feeling of unwell.
You first need to increase the load of antioxidants in your body. Antioxidants are naturally occurring substances that stop or prevent cell damage caused by oxidants. In other terms they are free radicals that are found in the environment and also produced naturally in your body. They are needed to help fight off microbes and viruses from things like cigarette smoke, air pollution and even alcohol.
Dislodging Toxins from your Body
Starting with the process of dislodging these harmful toxins from your body will be to start with a clean and healthy diet. Eliminate sugars and eat healthy fats such as those found in fish. Keep saturated fat to a minimum and load up on vegetables such as broccoli, peppers (high in Vitamin C), cauliflower, green beans, kale and spinach.
Reducing overall caloric intake is a major factor in dislodging these unwanted toxins as they are usually stored in fat cells. By sticking to a clean and healthy low calorie diet such as the Paleo diet will start your body off in the right direction. A few simple rules you can try is to not eat 3 hours before bedtime, avoid snacking and use intermittent fasting (more on that later).
You will detox with tea by drinking by drinking 2 -3 cups of high quality teas each day such as Green Teas, which are loaded with antioxidants that help kick this process off in the right direction. Green Teas are rich in polyphenols that have effects like reducing inflammation and helping to fight cancer. One of the most powerful components of Green Tea is the EGCG (Epigallocatechin Gallate) content. It has been studied to treat various diseases and may be one of the main reasons green tea has such powerful medicinal properties.
Green Tea has also been studied to increase fax oxidation, which is a huge help in dislodging toxins from your body. This is why we recommend 2 – 3 cups of Green Tea or a Detox Tea daily during your Tea Tox.
Intermittent fasting is also recommended during your detox and helps make your stored fat more accessible. During a fast you insulin levels drop which initiates fat burning. Your blood levels of growth hormone may increase which promote muscle gain and fat burning and your body starts a cellular repair process which removes harmful toxins from your cells.
Examples of an intermittent fast include skipping 1 or 2 meals each day, alternate day fasting (some variations include consuming just 500 calories on the fasting day), a 24 hour fast once or twice a week and my favorite the 16/8 method. This method includes eating only during an 8-10 hour window and fasting for the other 16 hours.
Eliminating Toxins from your body
Now that we dislodged the toxins from our bodies we need to eliminate them. There are various methods and supplements you can implement to help this process. Increasing your water intake and adding these herbs will do the trick.

Alfalfa Leaf has been used for centuries to detox the urinary tract, purify the blood and liver, promote bowl movement regulation, ease digestive issues, support healthy blood sugar levels and contains a high level of enzymes for food digestion.
Senna Leaf is an FDA approved non prescription drug to treat constipation. Senna stimulates the muscles of the colon to push fecal matter through more quickly eliminating toxins. This makes it a great colon cleanser and also aids in weight loss.
Juniper Berries increase the rate of kidney filtration which increases urine flow. This helps clear out harmful toxins in your body and is believed to increase volume of with losing electrolytes needed such as potassium.
Hibiscus has been studied to help protect the liver.
